The Paramedic education world lost a giant in 2022 when Doug York passed away. He taught thousands of future Paramedics at the University of Iowa Emergency Medical Services Learning Resources Center.
Doug dedicated his life to the service of patients and students, mentoring new educators, including as a frequent CoAEMSP site visitor, while always working towards educational excellence.
To honor Doug’s life and continue his work, CoAEMSP has established the Douglas K. York Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for program directors committed to high paramedic educational standards to attend ACCREDITCON. The recipient of the Douglas K. York scholarship will be able to participate in the conference at no cost (i.e., no registration fee, travel and hotel expenses).
We will make our first scholarship award in 2025.
The eligibility requirements, demonstrating a commitment to high educational standards, are:
- Current program director of a CAAHEP-accredited or CoAEMSP Letter of Review AEMT or paramedic education program.
- Program affiliation in good standing. Good standing is a program with no adverse accreditation action in the past 3 years, including suspension, revocation, or probation.
- An individual who embodies a commitment to educational excellence and servant leadership and embraces accreditation as a continuous quality improvement process.
If you meet the eligibility requirements and would like to apply, which includes a personal essay and two (2) letters of recommendation, you may submit your completed, signed, and dated application by March 1, 2025 to yorkfund@coaemsp.org. Applications submitted after the due date or in an incomplete format will not be considered.
